Cruise ships berth at Fremantle Passenger Terminal or at the <.strong>D Berth at Victoria Quay. The administration building is dating back to 19th century and has been beautifully preserved. It has won several awards for its cultural significance and heritage. The terminal is within walking distance of shops and restaurants, about 10 minutes away from the city centre. There is a railway station about 10 minutes’ walk from the terminal, and bus stops just outside it as well. There are shuttles to the visitor’s centre, provided by Fremantle Trams. Taxis are also available. There isn’t any overnight parking. The city of Perth is about 30 min drive south of the Fremantle Passenger Terminal.

One of the city’s landmarks is the Fremantle Prison, – it’s the Western Australia’s only UNESCO heritage listed building. It has been built by convicts in 1850s and used as a prison for 136 years, before being decommissioned in 1991.Another site that represents the city’s relationship with the ocean is the WA Maritime Museum. The museum is home to HMAS Ovens – an Oberon class submarine that was part of the Fremantle World War II allied submarine base – the largest in the Southern hemisphere at the time.The Fremantle markets carry a completely different type of atmosphere – this of a buzzing, chilled, creative, artsy and outdoorsy city. The markets is actually an over 100 years old building that hosts not locally grown fresh produce stalls, but also fashion, handcrafts, indigenous art, live performances.The Arts centre is another impressive neo-Gothic building in the heart of Fremantle that was first a lunatic asylum and is now an art exhibition centre that also offers fine handmade souvenirs, free art courses, live music concerts.Fremantle is also famous with its micro-breweries; it’s the home of handcrafted beer in Western Australia that the Eastern states have followed as well. One of the most popular beer gardens would be Little Creatures – the name was inspired by the tiny yeast cells that turn the malt wort into alcohol.
